Case Study: Creating jewelry tags using QuickBooks as the data source

Requirements/Needs:

  • Print jewelry tags using QuickBooks as the source
  • Retrieve the data from QuickBooks
  • Design a jewelry tag with product id, barcode, description and price
  • Automate the procedure so the user does not have to type anything
  • User friendly interface

    Solution

We designed a report in QuickBooks that had the product id, description and sale price.
The report was exported to Excel (software the customer already owned.)We then wrote few formulas to clean the information so it could be used for the label printing.
We designed a label using NiceLabel with all needed fields. The barcode was created directly in the product based on the product ID.
We provided the customer with a Dymo label printer (small direct thermal printer.) The printing process was made very simple:

    • 1. To update the inventory list: The user runs the memorized report in QuickBooks and then exports it to the existing report we created for them.
    • 2. The user then opens the label design program and chooses the label.
    • 3. The user selects the products she needs jewelry tags for and the number of tags she needs for each product.
    • 4. The user clicks > Print. The tags are updated with information and are sent to the printer.

      Conclusion

The company reports that it is very easy for them to print their jewelry tags now. Before our solution they had to hand write the information which made it look unpolished. Now they are able to print however many jewelry tags they need at a press of a button.
